The majority of these photos are taken locally around me however some are from major cities, bars and places I've been to recently.
Climbing instructor and younger man hanging upside down from a wire, while doing Via Ferrata in a quarry.
Both of the above images come from the fire pit at Fosse meadows in Lutterworth. People pictured are friends of mine. This in a way showing how places in woodlands which is far away from the busses of everyday society can still have their own personalitys.
Photographs above are all off grafti around where I live. Many have phrases which showing how people express themselves through their use of spray paints.
These two photos are ceilings of different clubs that I've been too. I find that many clubs I go to that bands play at express the style of the venue through art work. The top image is off a ceiling in a bar in London where the whole bar was themed with football. The bottom is off a club called the shed in Leicester where every band that plays places a sticker or poster on the walls. So every inch of the club looks like this, these were just ones that interested me. The amount of art on the walls conveying how people in society come together in places of music to bring life to buildings and helps to give places their personality.
Image of David Cameron sprayed onto a wall on London with explcit language, controversial street art in London. Showing some people in society's view on our government.
As going to gigs and concerts is a big part of my life and interests you get to know people that are in that crowd of people. Showing a different face to people we see everyday.
A street artist in Leicester playing the steel drums and busking for money, showing the ways some people in society make a living.
From the wasps v Samoa friendly game recently showing how sport is a massive community in everyday life.
All these four photos are taken on the way travelling home from college, showing just some of the aspects people who commute everywhere see on an everyday basis.
Both of these photos show how easily it is to chuck things into greenery and ruin the natural flora and fauna that we take for granted daily.
Many places in small towns and cities have often been closed and left empty. Which like the shutters closed here and bars blocking off greenery, create a darker image to our community making it seem run down and uninviting.
A local tattoo shop, the art of tattoos and the style can often seem controversial in everyday society and the pin up here on the front of the shop challenges that.
Like in many places with pound shops now on every corner, there's shop that sell 'everything', which I guess in a metaphorical way show how diverse society is for all the things each group of individuals need.
Along with the pictures I have from bars and clubs I think this shows how open drinking is in our lives now as this is on a street corner for anyone who walks past to see.
Some bold and thought provoking images here Eden. Those that link the theme of "social commentary" have the strongest visual appearance in my opinion. How could you link these to the broad theme I have introduced to you this week? Could you see yourself developing this theme further?
ReplyDeleteI think these images link to theme memories as the photos involving groups capture a moment in time for the people within the scenes, the images act as a reminder of the memories that the people within the scene created. The work involving graffiti and wallpaper of clubs link mainly to the theme of faded and time. Due the nature of the graffiti over time more artists add to the work, making the pieces underneath seem faded and are now covered by brand new artwork. As for the wallpaper of clubs they are filled with posters and stickers of all the artists and bands that have had the opportunity to play at the venue, acting of memories of people who were once there. Over time with each new band that enters more posters get added creating a new layout of the all making brand new memories. Underneath all the work there is many layers created which in a way creates the idea of memories fading and being replaced with new ones over time. I would like to carry on with this theme as I enjoy looking at the different aspect of society, however I do understand that it will be challenging to link it to the themes that we have been given.
